It's funny, whenever Crown Holders are about to perform we are hit with an onslaught of skeptical looks.
First off, we don't really dress like most rappers. I always like to say that at first glance we more resemble two singers than two rappers. But that's just who we are.

And then we are announced.
"Next up... the Crown Holders!"
It's at that moment that most people in the crowd's faces read, "'Crown Holders'? Yeah right." And I get it. It is a pretty braggadocios name when you first hear it. (But we do have more of a meaning behind it than simply 'bow to us'.)
So now, unless they've seen or heard us before, people have no idea how they are going to feel about us. ...We love that!

And then, sparked by a thunderous 808, and followed by a performance chock full of character, charisma, energy, slight choreography, and pretty much everything that hip hop is supposed to offer, all of the skeptical faces turn into ones of understanding, enjoyment, and slight appreciation.

This is the power of the live show!

As one half of, (and on behalf of), the Crown Holders, I pledge this to you: After seeing us perform live, you may not think we're the best act ever. But you won't hate us. We guarantee it!

Here is video footage from our performance at The Rhythm Lounge in Long Beach on 3-21-10. The songs featured are from our upcoming album 'When Forces Collide'. The songs are "You Ready Yet?", "Wheels Fall Off", and "Just Like Me".
We always love being on stage, and love when the crowd shows us the kind of love we received that night!

At the Lounge of Rythm...

My feet are hurting...new shoes.
My legs are aching...standing for hours.
I look to my right. J seems fine. As freakin' always.

I mentioned in a text to J a few weeks back that we forgot to pray at the last show. Never again. J said something like "Let's give it up to God." And we both went into our own silent prayers. I couldn't help but notice that we finished at the same time, both ending with the sign of the cross and kissing up to the Lord's hand. Wouldn't it be funny, I thought, if our prayers were spoken exactly the same way?

We hit the stage, and as I post a status on Facebook, J says "How's everyone doing tonight?"...Why do people never respond the first time? "Ahem...HOW'S EVERYONE DOING TONIGHT?!" I scream--realizing at that moment that the mic I have is very loud. We do NOT look like rappers. These guys probably think we're gonna stand up here and serenade their women...well we are, just in a different way ^_^. Boom Boom Boom Boom Boom Boom CLAP--We are the Crown Holders! That always happens so fast. I'm never ready for it. Which is funny--cause the first song we perform is called "You Ready Yet?"

You Ready Yet? Hahaha--"Dub keeps it real, son. I don't think they're ready, C!"..."Wow, this place is packed. Its like 11pm, people have work in the morning, but they're here. Dope!... J's verse isn't over yet. I love performances when I feel like the first song taking forever to end.... .... I'm wearing a cardigan... And a V-Neck. Is she cute?... Nah.  I'd probably be able to see her better if I took my shades off. I refuse... It's gonna be real hard to do that backwards step thing I do with this cord dangling by my feet. Eh, pulled it off. Did that guy just wink at me?... Oh, something's in his eye. Did a camera just flash from someone who isn't yet a fan of C.H? Sweet!--Oh'pe! My turn!"  "Rap's Architect is back, I just built myself a complex!"...

Wheels Fall Off. "Is that guy doing the bounce?...Why? J's verse just went by smoothly. "OK, here's my Blueprint..." Four bars in, I'm good. Wait...yo, did the chorus just come in, in the middle of my verse?...Who's the engineer, Tracy Morgan?...Wait--my verse is back? Um..."Just turned 21, baby its my birthday!...?" Well that worked! Swaet!... How'd I do that? Man, I am HUNGRY! The people in the VIP section are really liking this. Dope! Hey--you, sign us! Haha. Aw, this song's over already? Time for the next!"

Just Like Me. "J did the zipper thing this time. We didn't do it at the last show. Crap, I messed up on the 'fitted down low' part. Hate when I do that. "Put out to the left and then you all put on your blinker...man!" That part is always so clean...did he know that I wasn't gonna do the beginning part of my part of the chorus? He just--like, did it for me! Can we even call this a team? This is some other sh*t! We're like a super natural duo!...Hey, what if I did my high step from way in the back? I could fall...I've fallen before, its not so bad. Anyway, I'm already back by the mic stands. And high step high step high step high step "Skinny jean rocker wear it proper cause I'm cool as cold!" I'm screaming this verse. Can I be heard? Is it too late to pull back now? Whatever, I like not having a voice in the morning! Here it comes, my favorite part--"Skull shirt. Hi, swag!" Aaand wipe your chest, stomach--flip your jacket--J did the same thing. Dope! VIP likes that. Sweet! What's Taylor Swift doing right now?...focus. Have I always made the sign of the cross while saying "Its style that I'm bless with..."?? Hm...doing the reject. This part is fun. J looks at me like I'm crazy--aaand I hurt my back. Comedy. J thanks everyone for coming out--He is J-Dub, I am Comodity...and together..."
